Good blades, reasonably priced, 10 Feb. 2016

If, like me, you're a bit obsessed with getting a good, close, clean shave, then you'll probably have been on a similarly long, strange and often exasperating journey that's seen you test and reject countless new shaving devices.

The advent of multiple blades has only added to the sense of bewilderment: rather like Spinal Tap's guitarist Nigel Tufnel adding an '11' to his ten level amplifier, shaving manufacturers have encouraged consumers to think that the surest route to a cleaner shave is through an ever-increasing number of blades (at an ever-increasing price) crammed into a single cartridge. Well, as experience teaches us, that is not really the case. Rather than heading in the direction of more blades (which tend to be harder and harder to keep completely clean, thanks to the lack of space between them), what is needed are sharper, better blades. Quality rather than quantity.

Good Shaving Product., 10 Feb. 2016

I have, in the past reviewed several shaving products on the Amazon website - from an old-fashioned 'cut throat' style razor, single-blade 'safety' razors, multiple-blade replaceable razors through to electric shavers. I am old enough to recall when the double-bladed replaceable razor was launched as the new grooming product on the block, and very good it was too. A long way around getting to talk about the Wilkinson Sword Hydro 3. Firstly, having only the three blades, the actual shaving head is a tad smaller than the five blade variant, The lubrication strip is as short-lasting as ever, however, although how this aspect can be improved to be more durable is difficult, I guess. The resultant shave is pretty good, and used with a good quality shaving soap (not tinned foam), razor burn is kept to a minimum. As I tend to shave once every three or four days (I get a closer shave as a result), I can make these blades last a few weeks before they need to be replaced, but here's the rub -...
