So, you've trawled through about every review going and can't make up your mind because some people say the kids can open them, others say they're filmsey and others are hard to fit! Firstly, I bought this (for the top of the stairs) because I didn't want a metal frame and I didn't want the bar at the bottom, which is just asking for you to trip over it! I'll keep this simple:

-The item looks good

-It isn't flimsey

-It expands well, and can be fine tuned by screwing and unscrewing the bolts, so no problems that the holes in the gate are a couple of inches apart

-It comes with a stencil so you can't drill the holes in the wrong place (to be honest, if you've put up pictures and mirrors etc you'll have no problems)

-If your attaching to plaster board, you'll need special screws (but I always use my own plugs and screws, because supplied ones with anything are always rubbish)

-I have a 15 month old, I've set the gate fairly high (the bottom is a good...

Stairgate does what it says on the box but I found the fixing screws and rawlplugs supplied were not man enough and I had to change them for bigger ones after four or five days

Excellent Product - but use different screws, 15 Sept. 2009

I bought one of thesse to fit a very small doorway (68cm) and it does the job brilliantly. Looks really nice and you can undo the catch with one hand which is very useful. The only reason it lost a star is the screws. I had one break off in the doorframe and had to raise the gate to compensate. I lost another 3 screws to the screwhead getting chewed by the screwdriver. I got similar ones out of my toolbox and sorted in minutes (wish I hadn't spent so long trying the supplied ones). So happy with product - I ordered 2 more yesterday and they arrived this morning (on the 5 day free delivery!).
