Handy device to relieve engorgement or catch milk leakage, 27 Aug. 2016

I first came across this gadget in a breastfeeding Facebook group. Haakaa is a New Zealand brand. I ended up buying it on the Amazon US site at the time via seller Think Green (Haakaa authorised seller) but I'm glad it's now available on the UK site :)

This device looks so simple yet so clever! It's portable (approx 14cm tall, bulb 5cm wide and flange 8cm diameter), doesn't need batteries, doesn't make noise and it's easy to clean/sterilise! You position the flange on your breast and squeeze the bulb before cupping it onto the breast. Don't squeeze too hard or else the strong suction will make your breast hurts. You may need several adjustments to get the positioning and level of suction right, but you'll get there with more practice. I find I only need a small level of suction but bear in mind it will be different for everyone! Massaging the breast before use may also help to initiate the let down.

I have found my electric pump slightly inconvenient at times and although it can be used with batteries, it's generally only something I have done when at home. Whilst feeding, I have found it difficult to fit in between feeds with Harry. One of the main positives I have found with the Haakaa silicone pump is that I can attach it to my other breast whilst feeding Harry with ease. It's all in one piece so no tubes, bags or bottles to connect to it. With the suction it creates it also stays on really easily and is small enough to not get in the way.The first time I used it, I found I needed to move it around to get the best position for it to work. As suggested in the instructions, I always massage first as this seems to help to milk flow more easily. My milk came out in drips rather than gushing out, but in less than ten minutes I had 2 ounces with no effort put in on my part. Full review here [...]

Fantastic. A must buy, 27 Aug. 2016
Amazing. Managed to get 2oz off after a feed in less than 5 mins. Was slightly fiddly to try and attach initially but once you get it on comfy you're away! Easiest breast pump ever. Portable, no need for plugs, batteries etc. Will be highly recommending to everyone!!
