Ideal for stubble growers and for longer beards, 5 Feb. 2016

The BT5050 is within the upper range of the 5 series of Braun Beard Trimmers, but not the highest spec model. There is a control wheel that provides for a choice between 18 beard length settings, each at 0.5mm intervals and finishing at a reasonably long 10mm when used with the precision comb and then from 10-20mm in 2mm steps with the long beard comb. Whether or not the next model up offers a wider range of settings is unknown.

Power is provided by two internal rechargeable batteries that need a fast 1-hour charge time when run down although an initial charge will be slightly longer, the normal 'conditioning' charge. A full charge will provide up to approximately 40-50 minutes of use (the packaging and Braun's product page offer differing information), usually sufficient for about two weeks of daily use, more if used intermittently. Unless you want to maintain a specific length of stubble rather than a beard or moustache, you will not be using it daily or necessarily on...

A decent trimmer from a decent brand, 9 Feb. 2016

I have previously owned a good selection of Braun personal care products including toothbrushes, shavers and beard trimmers. All of them have proven to be long-lasting and reliable, and I expect this one to be as good as the earlier products. It feels well-made and is easy to use with a rotary dial which is set to adjust the cutting length of the precision length trimmer from 1mm – 10mm, and the other longer comb is for hair of between 10mm –20mm. Like most men I tend to stay within a small range of cutting lengths so I have easily found a setting which I like and expect to stick with it. The cutting action itself is simple and smooth, with no snagging in my experience. It’s also comfortable for me to hold, and is easy to wash under a tap so the whole trimming operation is very good.

I particularly like that this model comes complete with a small bottle of lubricating oil for the blades, a cleaning brush and a travel bag to keep everything in. Other...

Good for those with a longer beard, 5 Feb. 2016

*** I received this product for free on the understanding I provide a fair and honest review ***

Firstly let me say I have reviewed around 15 beard trimmers so far and they have ranged from the very expensive right down to the very cheap. They all seem to trim in the same fashion and the only real difference seems to be their heft and their materials but the actual job of trimming my beard is always the same ....

So the only real thing to distinguish them is their added features.

They all have a brush (like this one), most have a bag, most have a bottle of oil, and most are rechargeable.

The odd thing is most now have a sliding gradient from 1 to 15 mm. This however has a much larger range of trimming. This goes from 1-20mm but it uses a 2 comb system with the smaller comb having a graduation dial and the larger comb dealing with a more coarse approach.

However for all it's worth the beard trimmer I always come back to and serves me the best is my...
