We bought this to stop our little adventurer from advancing upstairs. We also got the side extensions as our stairs are quite wide (around 90cm). I feared that adding these could make it flimsy but it's a very well made gate and the side extensions are just as well made, there is no play in them when fitted, even when open the gate frame is sturdy and safe to press hard on or for your baby to pull against.Very impressed with the build quality of this gate, it's not the cheapest but it has a high quality feel to it that imparts a feeling of security.
